Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Stephen Wearne from MK Dons on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Wearne, 24, began his career with Middlesbrough. He spent three years in their academy, prior to making the switch to Sunderland.
He played three times for the Black Cats in the Football League Trophy, scoring two goals against Lincoln City and Manchester United under-21s.
Stephen then went on loan to Torquay in 2022, spending the second part of the season with the South Coast club. He played 14 times and netted on three occasions.
That summer, he left on a free transfer to Grimsby Town, he made a total of 12 appearances and scored once.
During his time with the Mariners, he had another loan spell with Torquay, where he made 12 appearances, scoring twice.
Before returning to the North East, signing for Mike Williamson's Gateshead in the summer of 2023. Where he quickly became a popular figure for the Heed, playing 36 times and scoring an impressive 12 goals.
Wearne then reunited with Williamson at MK Dons in January 2024. He went on to play 33 times for the club, scoring five goals.
