We spoke to new signing, Stephen Wearne, after he penned a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues.
Speaking to CUTV, he said: “I’m really happy. Just really looking forward to getting to work and getting going.”
Stephen has previously featured under Mike Williamson on two occasions at Gateshead and MK Dons ahead of his switch to Cumbria.
“This is a hat-trick [of working under Mike].
"I've got a good relationship with the gaffer and all his staff, and I feel like I play my best football when I'm happy and when I'm working under him.
"It was obviously a big decision for me to come here, but yeah, he's played a big part in that.
“I think they just understand me as a person, as a player, so when you're happy you play your best stuff.
“I have a really good relationship with them and a few other boys here to be fair, so I'm hoping I can hit levels that I have previously."
Talking on those familar faces in further detail, he added: "I know quite a few of the boys, I've known Jack Robinson since I was young, obviously I've played with Whelo [Callum Whelan] at Gateshead, played with Ethan [Robson] at MK last year, played with Embo [Elliot Embleton] at Sunderland, played with Luke Armstrong at Middlesbrough, so yeah, I know a few of the boys, so hopefully it should be easy for me to settle in and get going quickly.”
Summarising his journey so far, Wearne said: “I've been about quite a bit to be fair, I started at Middlesbrough when I was younger, done a couple of years at Sunderland, had a spell at Torquay, some time at Grimsby, never quite got going, probably fell on my feet a little bit when I signed for Gateshead.
“I had a good spell at Gateshead and then spent the last year at MK, where I didn't quite hit the levels that I wanted to or the levels that I'm capable of or that I have previously, but yeah, I'm looking forward to this new chapter and hopefully it can be a good one.”
We asked Stephen when he first heard of the interest from the club, he replied: “A couple of weeks ago. Obviously they've made quite a few signings and when I knew they were going to be interested in me I was excited to get here.
“I really like Rob [Clarkson], he's been really good and really helpful in getting me here, so yeah, I'm really looking forward to it."
Describing his game, he stated: “I just give 100%, leave everything out there on the pitch and if I can show my quality and bring the qualities I've got to the team then hopefully I can help as much as I can.
“I just try to leave everything out there and let the rest take care of itself.”
At just 24-years-old, we put it to Stephen that he may still have plenty of development left, he agreed, saying: “I hope so, yeah, that's the aim.
“Like I said, I've been with the gaffer before and I know he can get the best out of me so yeah, hopefully that's the case here.
“I'm really keen to get stuck in. Obviously training today, I've got a full week of training, hopefully it'll be a good week, and then get out there on Saturday and hopefully put on a good performance and get three points.
After arriving on Monday morning, Stephen shared his initial thoughts on Brunton Park, saying: "It’s really good. I've had a walk around today, I've been really happy with it, it's a proper football club isn't it, it's got that feel about it.
"I'm just really excited to get out there on Saturday and see the supporters.”
Finally, speaking directly to the United supporters, Wearne said: “Just get behind us, stick with us and we'll hopefully get the job done.”
