Crystal Palace defender Sean Grehan became United's second signing of a busy day when he agreed a half-season loan switch to Brunton Park.
And we caught-up with manager Paul Simpson to discuss his latest recruit.
"He's another good addition," said the Blues' boss.
"He can play right or left-side centre back and I think he adds a little bit more to what we've got.
"He's got a real hunger about him and has played senior football with Bohemians over in Ireland and has that real hunger in his belly.
"He's a no-nonsense defender but he's also got a good range of passing, he can play out from the back - but he loves defending.
"We've had good references on him and we've watched him six or seven times live this season and everything has been positive.
"We decided it was a good one to bring in and another good, young on. The gamble is that it's his first loan out from London but he's come in already to have his medical and do a little bit of work with Jake and he seems another one who has real fire in his belly to come and make his mark for us."
Grehan becomes the third Palace player in as many windows to join the Cumbrians - following in the foosteps of JK Gordan and Luke Plange - as the club's reputation for looking after and developing young players continues to grow.
"They've just given him a new long-term contract and wanted him to go out and get experience," explained Simpson.
"I think Palace realise - Ben who we speak to and Mark Bright - that we are trying to do it properly, we look after them and we're giving these young lads opportunities.
"Luke's played 20 plus games for us this season and will have gained some really good learnings from being here.
"That's what it's about - it's about them picking up different things and learning from the spell away, and hopefully that will be the same with Sean."
While Grehan has senior experience in his homeland, this will be his first taste of the EFL.
But it's a challenge that Simpson feels the centre back will relish.
"That's the test, and that was the same for JK last season and for Luke, although Luke had a little taste of senior football with Derby," he said.
"This will be new for Sean but I can see by the way he's speaking and the way he's looked after himself that he's a player with real high potential.
"Palace think highly of him and hopefully we can help him develop."
