With Fin Back added to the squad on Monday morning manager Paul Simpson spoke once again about the ongoing work as he looks to put the final pieces of the jigsaw together ahead of the start of the new League One season.
“I had some disappointing news last night, we’ve missed out on a player I was looking to bring in,” he revealed.
“There are things which we’ll continue to work on this week with other players we’re trying to bring in.
“I have two areas of the pitch which need strengthening and I hope we’ll get some news this week on that.
“As we stand here - first thing on a Monday morning - I can’t say any more than that.”
“The player we have the offer in for is one that’s still bubbling away,” he confirmed. “There are also three loan signings that we’re discussing with the relevant clubs.
“It’s just really difficult at the moment, because a lot of the clubs we want to deal with are still away on pre-season tours.
“That means we can’t get final decisions, and then you have Premier League clubs that are trying to get their players tied down to longer-term contracts before they’ll allow them to come out on loan.
“There are a lot of different things that get in the way of loan deals sometimes and you have to juggle your way through them as much as you can at the same time as staying patient with it all.”
“I’m ok at the moment, I’m not panicking,” he concluded. “I know we have a group to go to Chorley on Tuesday and another group to play Dundee United on Saturday.
“I then want a group together to take us through to January, and I want that finalised as soon as it possibly can be.”
