The manager on closing in on signings
United manager Greg Abbott today confirmed that positive progress has been made as the search for new signings grows in intensity.
“I've spoken to two players who have had really positive things to say,” he told us. “I'm away on holiday next week but I would hope, when I come back, that we'll have something to say about at least one of them.”
“We know what types of players we're after and we have to try and fit them into our structure now,” he continued. “The players we're talking to are quick and hopefully they'll be the type to excite the crowd.
“We’re a good way down the line with two of the lads we’re looking to bring in and, like I say, hopefully we should have something more concrete to report when I get back from my holiday.”
“I'd like to think we'll have verbal agreements in place before I go away and it will then be just a case of finalising things when I’m back up here,” he explained. “I think we need to keep some spaces open for players who don't get the moves they might be looking for but we do want to start seeing the squad take a bit more shape.
“The work on these two has been ongoing for a while and it’s nice to see things start to draw to a close. All being well we’ll get it over the line and we’ll be able to make the announcements the week after next.”
