INTERVIEW: We've worked hard

Greg Abbott on Matt Robson

Manager Greg Abbott gave us his reaction to the news that long-serving wide man Matt Robson has today agreed a new two-year deal which keeps the popular winger at Brunton Park until June 2015.

"We've worked hard in trying to convince Matt that this is the right place for him," he said. "He had some interest from other clubs so we're really pleased.

"He was terrific last year and we think he's still improving. On top of that he's the type of person we want here and I'm buzzing for the first time this summer. We know that finances will be tight next year but Matt is a massive part of what we're trying to do."

"We want a bit of pace and flair to excite the crowd and he fits into that," he continued. "We sat down together and talked about it - there's a lot of respect between us - so we needed to make sure we had the right balance for ourselves and for him.

"He has agreed the contract for all of the right reasons. He knows he'll be one of the senior players in the team next year and that brings extra responsibilities. He'll be able to help the younger players along, give them advice, and I think that's something he's looking forward to."

"He likes the area and the people around the city and I think that comes across in the way he plays," he added. "You can tell he really enjoys his football here.

"He's got a great relationship with the fans. I think you can see that from the amount of awards he picked up and I hope they're as pleased as I am."
