Jack Lynch on pre-season
First-year professional Jack Lynch has already impressed in his pre-season showings so far and we caught up with him on Thursday morning to find out he felt about being among the first-team ranks for what is an important campaign.
"Pre-season is going really well," he said.
"I feel like I'm getting fitter every day. It's been good to get two games under my belt because match fitness is what we're all working towards.
"We know we need to do the running in training but it's nothing like playing a full 90 minutes. I made sure I didn't completely stop over the summer so I could get straight back into it, and I think that has helped."
"The gaffer spoke to me about what he wants from me in the friendly games," he said. "He told me to make sure that I compete and stay involved in the game. He wants me to keep things moving when we're in possession and he has stressed the importance of getting up to support the striker as quickly as possible."
"Even though I trained with the first team quite a lot last season it does feel a little bit different this time," he admitted.
"In terms of fitting into the group, all of the lads are really good with the younger players and I think we've all found it really enjoyable."
"It was brilliant coming back knowing I was a first-year professional," he continued. "It gives you that extra little bit of motivation to come back as fit as you can be because you know you're working towards a place in the first team.
"Everybody has got a fair amount of pitch time so far and you can't beat that. It's a chance to show the gaffer what you can do.
"I haven't set myself any targets because I don't really know what to expect, especially with it being my first season.
"I'm just hoping to do as well as I can and see what happens. I do want to add goals to my game, if I'm honest. It's something I'm working on but it hasn't happened for me just yet!"
