UNITED PROUDLY HONOUR THOSE WHO PAID THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE

REMEMBRANCE FIXTURE

On Saturday ahead of our game against Cheltenham at Brunton Park, we took a moment to remember all those brave men and women who have lost their lives in many conflicts and wars around the world.

Especially poignant this year are memories of those who served in the D-Day landings of 1944 and the 25th anniversary of the end of the war in Bosnia and the Balkans. Those who served in events as historic as these brings a powerful reminder of their courage and duty.

The veterans of WWII and the peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and the Balkans are testaments to the resilience and dedication of service members who faced both the horrors of global conflict and the challenges of securing peace in complex regions. Their efforts have left a lasting impact on our shared history and commemorating them acknowledges not only their sacrifices but also the values they defended.

We welcomed special guests:
- Peter Rees and Sid Norton representing Kings Own Border Regiment
- Ian Norton - Duke of Lancs
- David Murphy - Royal Navy
- Robert Peterson - Pay Corps
- Jeff Hawker - Standard Barer - REME
- Dawn Hawker - WRAC
- Kerry Ann Wilde - WRAC
- Four reservists from 4 Lancs

Wreaths were laid on the pitch ahead of kick off, with digital displays of poppies circulating the pitch, before the last post was played to allow a moment of reflection as we all remembered those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

The Royal British Legion also joined us in the fan zone who were conducting a bucket collection for this year’s poppy appeal. Thank you to all those who donated.

Teresa Mulholland, club and community sports trust EDI Lead, said: "We extend our sincere gratitude to the armed forces for taking part in our Remembrance fixture.

"Their presence brought great honour to the occasion and served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by so many in service to our country.

"Thank you for standing with us as we remembered and paid tribute to those who gave so much."

Chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “It is very important we all acknowledge and remember the service and sacrifices made by our forces.

"The club’s Community Sports Trust already does great work with the military community and our Chairman did military service for USA. Magellan Logistics in Florida and the family are great supporters of veterans too.

"We are going to follow that lead and in future years we will be holding an annual Military Match to support and remember our veterans. Those community groups and veterans who want to get involved please email edi@carlisleunited.co.uk."
