Carlisle United Community Sports Trust have named Declan McArdle as their Premier League Community Captain in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the game and society.
Clubs and the Premier League have been celebrating ‘More Than A Game’ and highlighting the positive impact of Premier League investment into communities and clubs at every level of football.
The Premier League is investing £1.6 billion into wider football and communities between 2022 and 2025 to support football at every level of the game across England and Wales. This world-leading funding into clubs, communities and facilities positively impacts and inspires millions of people.
As part of ‘More Than A Game’, the League will be celebrating more than 100 Community Captains – individuals nominated by Premier League, EFL and National League clubs for their contribution to their local community via programmes funded by the Premier League.
Declan has been chosen as CUFC CST’s 2025 Community Captain for his incredible commitment to his community, showing fantastic support for Premier League Kicks and Fans Fund sessions at St John Henry Newman Catholic School in his role as Deputy Headteacher.
On receiving the award, Declan said: “It’s a real privilege and I am very honoured to have been given the award.
“I think it’s a testament to the close relationship that St John Henry Newman Catholic School has with the Community Sports Trust and the club which will hopefully develop over the coming years.”
Carlisle United Community Sports Trust CEO, James Tose added: “We are delighted for Declan to be named this year’s Community Captain.
“Declan has been a major part in helping us deliver our Premier League Fans Fund and Premier League Kicks projects in St John Henry Newman Catholic School this academic year.
“The projects have made a real difference to the pupil's lives and without Declan’s support, this would not happen. Congratulations to Declan.”
Premier League Director of Community, Nick Perchard said: “It is so important that we continue to recognise and collectively highlight the positive impact that work within local communities has, championing those at the heart of Premier League-funded initiatives.
“Success on the pitch enables the Premier League to share unparalleled investment into communities and football at all levels across England and Wales.”
