NEAL SPEAKS AFTER WORKINGTON STALEMATE

Following our friendly with Workington, we spoke to midfielder Harrison Neal.

Assessing the game, he said: “There were some good bits, there were some bits we need to improve on.

“I think we had a few chances, but ultimately we know we can be better than that, but these games are for us to get that out of the way and then keep working on it. We know we've got lots to work on and these games will help.

“We had a lot of ball, moving it side to side, but didn't really have that final pass, which I'm sure if we keep working on it, it'll come.”

Speaking on our opponents, Harrison said: “They did well, yes, they were good. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game, they're always good, these teams, they're not at a bad level and they make it difficult for you.”

On Monday, the first team squad head to St Andrews for a week-long training camp, culminating with an away clash against Scottish outfit St Mirren.

“It should be good. Obviously up there with lads, you'll get to know people better and we'll be stronger because of that.

“Training, hard work, getting fitter, getting stronger and then just coming closer together with each other.

“It'll be a good game against St Mirren, they're always a very good side, so it'll test us and hopefully we can push on.”

Over 1,200 were in attendance at Workington on Saturday afternoon.

“Every time they turn up with the numbers and everything, so if we can keep doing it, hopefully we can have a season to remember.”

Speaking on our opening league fixture at Gillingham, Neal said: ”It's a tough one, but you're going to have to play everyone, so hopefully we can go there and win.”

United then face Barrow in their first home league fixture of the campaign.

“It should be good, there'll be a lot of fans there I imagine, there should be a good atmosphere and hope we can win that as well.”
