We spoke to head coach Mike Williamson shortly after full time at Bromley.
“I thought we were excellent all the way through the 90 minutes,” he said. “I thought the boys played with so much composure, and we dominated the game.
“We just weren’t clean enough in the final third which was disappointing, but the amount of endeavour, the energy that they showed, the desire to want to play forward, I was really pleased with.
“We were obviously the team pushing at the end but it was a difficult one. We switched off and made a bad decision for the penalty, but the mentality didn't change and the desire to get back in the game was there. When we got it back to 1-1, we were pushing towards the end, and it was good to see.
“We had the better of the first half, so we wanted to make sure we didn’t come away from our levels. We wanted to make sure that everyone was driving each other, and it wasn’t a case of a good first half and then we don't really kind of step on but they did that.
“It was frustrating to go behind but, again, a lot character and spirit and when you see that togetherness of the boys, you know we'll be okay. I thought we created more than enough chances today and that's the only thing we can ask for to get the boys into certain areas.
“On another day we get a couple of goals, but we have got to just review the intention. Quality varies throughout the season and confidence and things like that, but the actual intention of what we tried to do was really good.”
United were backed by another sold-out away end, and Mike commented: “They showed up in their numbers and I felt like that was a performance that built on the last couple.
“We didn't get the win we wanted to build on, but the performance was there and I thought the fans were excellent.”
United are now unbeaten in three after victories over Salford and Morecambe, and we asked Mike if that brings confidence to the lads: “I think you can feel it, the boys can feel it out there. They are taking a lot of ownership on the ball, you can see the energy and the encouragement around the team and even when we went behind we didn't change our habits which was pleasing to see.”
To end, we checked up on Aaron Hayden, Harrison Biggins and Ethan Robson: “Aaron was missing through illness, he wasn't well in the week and he was struggling so it's a bit of a precaution, but he should be fine for next week.
“Harrison has picked up a short-term knee injury, it’s something we’re assessing day-by-day but we don’t think it will be too long.
“With Ethan I think we're looking around eight weeks, so it's not as bad as the last one which is good, it's a different injury and a different area. It’s a tough one to take but I'm sure he'll come back stronger.”
