Dan Adu-Adjei scored United’s goal at Bromley to earn a point, and we caught up with the striker shortly after the game.
Talking about the game as a whole, he said: “I think we played really well, just couldn't really get a final pass or final finish. We created loads of chances, especially when they went down to 10 men, we just dominated the game.
“Even before that, I feel like we were the better team for the whole game we’re happy to get at least get a point from it but we deserved a lot more.
“It’s frustrating to only get a point but I think it shows the character of the whole team to keep going even when we're not getting that goal. We scored in extra time so we kept going and kept trusting the way we play, and got the goal from it.”
On what was said at half time, the Bournemouth loanee said: “It was just to keep going, just show a good mentality to keep doing what we're doing because we're playing well but we’d only done half a job really. We just needed to stay focused, keep doing what we're doing and keep knowing we're the better team and trust that a chance will come.”
United were kicking towards a sold-out away end in the second half, and we asked if that has any impact on the team, Dan said: “Definitely, you can hear them when chances are getting created and that helps me a lot, it just gives me that buzz that a chance is going to come when I can hear them getting louder and louder and building us up. Their support was great today and thankfully we got a point for them.
On the goal, and what was going through his mind as the ball fell in the box, he said: “I just knew I needed to try and find a way to swivel and shoot, it's hard for keepers to save those ones when you when you do that so I just stretched my left foot got a toe on it.
“It was frustrating we couldn’t go on and win it, we've tried as much as we could to get that winner but it's just unlucky with the chance at the end, it's a really good recovery from the lad that blocked it. Charters has done everything right so it's just unlucky.”
We asked Dan what it did for the group’s confidence to get another late goal, after Ben Barclay’s winner at Salford last weekend: “It's great because going into the next game if we're 1-0 down or drawing 0-0 we know that we've got the capabilities of scoring late on and that we can keep going to the 90th minute, it's just really good for our confidence especially late on in games.”
On his fitness levels after returning from injury, he said: “I feel really good, I felt good during the game even though it was it was tough but we had a lot of possession so I felt ok during the game.”
His final word was on the fans who made the long trip to watch the game: “We’re all really grateful to them, it's a really long journey which we went through yesterday, and it's great that you have fans that are willing to come all that way. They played a really good part in us getting a result today.
“We’re now going into the Doncaster game full of confidence and trust in the way that we play. We know we can get a result in front of our home crowd. They're really good away and they're always good at home, so we’re really confident and looking forward to that.”
