Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of defender Josh Williams on a two-and-a-half-year deal from Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee.
Williams, 22, came through Birmingham City’s academy. He made his debut in the 2021/22 season, coming on as a substitute in an FA Cup clash against Plymouth Argyle.
The defender made a total of nine first team appearances for Birmingham before going out on loan to Cheltenham Town in the 2023/24 season.
Williams then returned to his parent club before being loaned out to National League side Gateshead in November of last year. He made his debut as a substitute in a 2-2 draw with Aldershot Town. Williams then quickly established himself in the side, and has started every league match since, turning out consistent impressive performances.
Josh arrives at BP having made a total of 10 appearances for the Heed.
Head Coach, Mike Williamson said: "I'm really excited to get him in, he’s got pace and power. He’s a player who will really excite the fans with the way he plays.
"Josh is young and hungry, he fits our recruitment model perfectly."
Sporting Director, Rob Clarkson said: "Josh is a player we have watched a lot of this season. He had a really successful loan at Gateshead, off the back of a spell in League One last season.
"He has great pace and 1v1 ability, and at 22-years-old he is hungry to show what he can do in a Carlisle shirt. We thank Birmingham for agreeing on this deal with us."
