GABE BREEZE SPEAKS AHEAD OF FLEETWOOD TOWN TRIP

GABE BREEZE

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Fleetwood Town, we spoke to Gabe Breeze.

Speaking to CUTV, the goalkeeper said: “I’m looking forward to it, it'll be another challenge and we'll be needing to get a result. It'll be a tough game.

“I wonder what the weather's going to be like because right now it's blowing a gale but it should be a good game, be very direct and obviously we need to match that and play our own game and try and win the game.

“I just need to make sure I judge everything properly and don't get caught out with the wind and come for a cross and get stuck underneath it or something, but yeah, it should be enjoyable.

“I always enjoy windy games, fun to play.”

On Boxing Day in 2023, Gabe made his first team debut for United at Saturday’s venue, Highbury Stadium.

“That was very special to me, I enjoyed the game a lot, and got a point obviously.

“Good memories there, shame we never got the win but hopefully we’ll put it right this weekend.”

When asked about training this week, he responded: “There’s been a lot on our style of play, our shape with and without the ball and just trying to cement what we already know and trying to get a lot better at it.”

Speaking on goalkeeper sessions at the moment, he stated: “They’re enjoyable at the moment, very dirty, diving around in a lot of mud but you come in, start early and catch a lot of balls and save a lot of shots.

“I really enjoy working with Harry, Jude, Wealy (Tom Weal) and the young lads, Tom (Thomas Randall) and Casey [Sillitoe], very good keepers coming up.

“We all push each other very well and get the best out of each other.”

Talking on Tom Weal’s influence on the goalkeeping department further since arriving at the club, Breeze said: “He's got a lot of detail, I can't really say a bad word because he's put me in the sticks, so yeah, I enjoy working with him and he helps, he's helped me a lot.

“He knows a lot and he makes sure we know a lot as well when we step out onto the pitch.”

The Blues’ shot-stopper then moved on to talking about the gaffer, Mike Williamson, saying: “It's different to what we’ve had in the past but it’s very enjoyable and hopefully things turn around.”

The 21-year-old entered Carlisle’s team back in early November against Wigan Athletic in the Emirates FA Cup. Speaking on his time between the sticks since then, he said: “I've enjoyed it because I enjoy playing football, the results haven't been the greatest and I think I'd enjoy it a lot more if we started to win but playing at Brunton Park every other week is what I've dreamed of so I've got to enjoy it.

“I think when one win comes I think we'll kick on and we'll do very well but we just need to try and play our own game and try and just pick up points when we can.”

When asked how United’s 10 new additions are settling in, Gabe said: “They're all really nice lads and they've settled in quite well, I enjoy having them around.”

Mike Williamson’s side head to Highbury Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a sold-out away end behind them. Gabe ended with a message to the 1,100+ Blues making the trip to Lancashire, saying: “It's just incredible support week in, week out, they're always travelling in great numbers - I can't wait to see them and play in front of them.”
