Carlisle United Community Sports Trust are overjoyed that the Komatsu Climate Heroes project has been shortlisted for Community Initiative of the Season at the North West Football Awards.
This recognition is a testament to the significant positive impact the project and staff delivery have had despite the initiative only starting in 2023.
The Komatsu Forest-funded project focuses on the topic of sustainability, delving into climate change, biodiversity, preservation of local wildlife and future global environmental challenges, and is delivered to local primary school pupils across a five-week period.
Over 350 participants were involved in the programme during the 2023/2024 school year, having delivered 20 different classes of six sessions with bespoke classroom lessons as well as a trip to the Komatsu site.
On November 25, the CST will find out whether they have secured the award at the North West Football Awards Gala Dinner at the Emirates Old Trafford.
Carlisle United Community Sports Trust CEO, James Tose said: "We are delighted that our fantastic Komatsu Climate Heroes project is getting the recognition it deserves.
"Natasha Messier, our Sustainability Coordinator, has done a brilliant job in designing and delivering this bespoke project.
"It's a great example of how a commercial partnership can have a real impact on its community; working with Komatsu has been a great experience, and we hope to continue working closely together for many years to come."
Komatsu Forest Managing Director, Stephen Bellas added: "We take pride in our partnership with Carlisle United Community Sports Trust and its impact in supporting local schools to educate the next generation about environmental sustainability.
"It's amazing the project has been shortlisted for an award and recognised for all the hard work to make the initiative such a success.
"The project, skilfully executed by the CST team, has inspired school children to embrace the ethos of 'our planet, our home' and understand how each individual can contribute to a sustainable future.
"It is truly an honour to host the final session at Komatsu Forest Ltd and meet the incredible children who have participated in the project."
