Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to announce that defender Aaron Hayden has agreed terms and will return to Brunton Park on a two-year deal following the expiration of his contract with Wrexham.
Hayden, 27, left Brunton Park to join the Welsh outfit ahead of the 2021/22 season after making 73 appearances for the Blues.
He initially signed a one-year contract at Brunton Park in July 2019, following a successful trial period.
This was renewed in January 2020 for a further 18-months, prior to securing another 12-month spell at the club, when a clause was triggered at the end of the 20/21 season after showing leadership qualities on and off the pitch as United's vice-captain.
Croydon-born Hayden had a period in the youth system at Chelsea, before moving north to join Wolves' Academy as a 16-year-old in 2015. He enjoyed loan moves with Newport County, Hemel Hempstead Town, Bromley and Telford during his spell in the West Midlands.
Prior to his arrival in Cumbria in 2019, he spent almost 18-months on loan at Southern League Premier Division Central side Stourbridge.
Manager Paul Simpson said: “We’re delighted that Aaron has agreed to return to us, he comes back to the club with more experience under his belt and two promotions. I think he’ll be a great addition to the group.
“As soon as we knew he was going to be available, he was a player we targeted early. We’re delighted to have been able to get this agreed ahead of other clubs.
“We are now continuing to look to strengthen the squad, ahead of an exciting new season.”
The move is subject to ratification from the FA and EFL.
