CLUB: BACKING THE BLUES - 120 YEARS OF CARLISLE UNITED

17 May 2024, marks 120 years since the formation of Carlisle United FC.

The upcoming season is also a major landmark in the club’s history - the 50th anniversary of the only season in the top-flight of English football.

The National Lottery Heritage Funded project creates a unique opportunity to celebrate the club’s history, whilst looking forward to an exciting and dynamic future - read more about this HERE.

2024 is a big year for one of our project partners Tullie, who will host the major exhibition, ‘Backing the Blues: 120 Years of Carlisle United', in the museum’s prestigious temporary exhibition gallery, running from July to November 2024.

Supporter Liaison Officer Simon Clarkson said: "Following a huge volume of donations from fans, we are now finalising the items to be exhibited and would like to make a final appeal for anything particularly unusual or unique. For example, a 74/75 shirt would be brilliant to display.”

Simon then explained how the public can feature in the exhibition.

“In collaboration with the University of Cumbria (UoC), we are asking the Blue Army to submit testimony videos based on three questions selected by the public. A selection of the videos will be shown.”

Before uploading videos, fans should note the following criteria:

  • recording device set to landscape
  • record in a quiet place with no background noise
  • maximum duration 1 minute
  • inappropriate content will be excluded

Upon submission, a message will show the name of the compiler on behalf of the project, Ed Cooper from UoC.

Here are the three links to submit your footage:

Alternatively, you can attach your clips to a WeTransfer link and email them to: cufcmp@cumbria.ac.uk

Closing date for submission is Friday 31 May 2024.

This project is funded by the generous support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Carlisle United Football Club, Cumberland Council and Tullie.
