Manager Paul Simpson spoke to us after the defeat at home against Bolton.
“It’s blatantly obvious we were beaten by a far better side than us today,” he said. “They were sharper, they kept the ball better than we did and they had lots of possession first half.
“We maybe got away with a few things before the two goals, but both goals come from us giving the ball away in the first half. We had the ball and tried to lay it off first time and ended up giving it straight to them. They’re basic things, but there were a lot of basis things that we didn’t do very well today.
“I thought second half with Jordan and Jack coming on they added a bit more energy to us and gave us a bit of life. The change of shape in the first half I thought also gave us a bit of life. We just didn’t have that quality up there to be able to go and get ourselves back in it.
“I feel a bit sorry for Luke Armstrong because he’s absolutely working his socks off but we’re not getting enough support up to him and we’re not getting any real deliveries into the box for him to be able to go and get on the end of. I’m really pleased with the work he’s putting in.
“It was a fantastic strike from Gibbo to get us back in it, and then we were just hoping we could nick something and get a bit of quality in the final third. We got done with the third goal on 90 minutes which knocks the stuffing right out of us.
“There was a huge gulf between the two teams today and I think we have to be honest about that. That’s a big disappointment but the league table shows there’s a huge gulf and we’ve got to regroup and go again.
“I think Jack Diamond will get better with games, he showed little glimpses of what he’s capable of doing. There’s obviously problems we need to get out of our squad and get out of our group so we make sure we go again next week.
“I wanted to get Josh into it, I’d already made that decision because Mox was feeling his knee and other bits and pieces. I’d made that decision, with hindsight I maybe shouldn’t have done it straight after the goa,l but I’d already decided I was doing it because I wanted Josh to come in and talk, organise and find passes. I have to say, I thought he did do that. I’m saying I maybe shouldn’t have made that substitution but the 4-1 defeat wasn’t a reflection of what Josh Vela did.”
With the gap to safety still 10 points with 17 games remaining, he said: “The situation is horrible, it’s not great to be in and it’s tough to deal with but we’ve just got to keep working.
“I said it before the game but if we don’t start winning our own games then it doesn’t matter what everybody else does. We have to start winning games.
“We had a fantastic crowd here today and we didn’t do enough to give them something. When we scored they really got behind us and gave us some impetus to drive forward but we weren’t able to maintain it.
“We couldn’t get something to drop in the box, you look at the corner that was bobbling around two yards out from the goal and the goalkeeper is able to drop on it. I just wish we could get someone who could stick a big toe on it to poke it over the line and get us back in the game.
“That’s where we are as a group, it’s not what anybody wants. It’s not what I want, it’s not what the players want and it’s not what the fans want, but it’s where we are and we’ve got to dig in.”
