United's under-18s were defeated on the road in their latest EFL Youth Alliance League game, as an 85th minute goal from Shrewsbury was enough to seal the three points for the hosts in Shropshire.
Mark Birch's side made the long trip aiming to return to winning ways following two defeats in as many games against Wrexham and Blackpool.
The Blues’ side began the game strongly, playing some free-flowing football and applying some pressure on the Shrewsbury defence.
Salop then began to go through the gears, creating the better chances of the two sides and threatened to break the deadlock before the interval.
United remained resilient and battled through to half-time with the scoreline remaining goalless.
In the second period of the game, United created the biggest chance of the encounter, courtesy of substitute Dan Hopper. After some good work from Robbie Swinburn on the left-hand side, he found Hopper, whose effort from outside the box rattled against the bar.
With five minutes of normal time remaining, United's defence was breached as Shrewsbury found the opener. A ball into the box was met and headed past Thomas Randall to give the hosts the lead.
Carlisle tried to find an equaliser, but Shrewsbury inflicted a third defeat on the bounce for Birch's side.
Starting: Randall, Chapman, Nicholson, Walsh, Atkinson, Penny, O'Donoghue, Murray, Swinburn, Skinner, Park.
