Manager Paul Simpson confirmed at his Thursday press conference that work is still ongoing o bring players in ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline.
“Two are quite well on,” he confirmed. “We're waiting for the players to come in and get their medicals done.
“There are also some rumblings about some players leaving, which I think is also important. That’s something I've already talked about over the last week or two, because we have a bit of a top heavy squad and we're going to end up with far too many players who are not playing.
“If I’m being really honest, the group that we've had up until this point haven't been good enough in League One. So we have to change it. If we keep doing the same thing, the likelihood is we're going to get the same results.
“With Joe Garner leaving, we need somebody of that ilk, as well as Ryan Edmondson going earlier in the month. I saw them both as just being bit part players for us between now and the end of the season, so I've respected their wishes and we've seen them off and wish them all the best for the next stage.
“We do need to add to the group, the difficulty is there's been quite a few players who we've inquired about who are not fully fit with different little niggly injuries, and then other clubs have taken the chance and taking them when they're not fully fit.
“It’s been really, really difficult trying to get players in, but we'll keep going. I'm delighted with what we've done so far with the players we've brought in I think we've got a good calibre of players. We'll see what the rest of the day brings.”
“We’re looking at one loan and permanent,” he confirmed. “The loans are an issue because although they’re a safer bet, we're clocking up the loans, and you're only allowed five in the group.
“It looks like Jokull may not play again this season. He's going to be reassessed by reading on Monday, but he's out certainly long term. So there's always going to have to be a loan signing who can't be involved in the 18. But that's just the way that this window is. I have to say it's been the toughest transfer window I've worked in.”
“We’re not looking for a replacement for Owen Moxon,” he said. “We've got Taylor Charters, we've got Jordan Gibson, we've got Dylan McGeouch and Jayden Harris has come back.
“So we've got players here. We've made inquiries to be to be bringing players in on permanent deals in that midfield area, but we weren't able to do it. So it may just have to be something that we have to go with what we've got and address it again in the summer.”
On the possibility of players heading out of Brunton Park, he said: “We’ll possibly have two or three who will go out. I think they'll all be loans. I don't think there's anything permanent going to happen.
“We're just going to have to wait and see, there's been discussions going on. But nothing confirmed as yet. It's frustrating that we're up to this day, I always thought that I wouldn't get involved in a bunfight going up to the deadline. But it looks like we are going to be involved in one.”
