PREVIEW: Wycombe

Wycombe Wanderers v Carlisle United, Saturday 30 September, kick off 3pm

The Chairboys were on a five-game unbeaten League One run heading into last Saturday's away game at Charlton. They thought they were heading for at least a point in that one after West Ham loanee Freddie Potts had levelled things up ahead of the hour mark, but the Addicks struck twice in the last 10 minutes to claim the victory.

Back-to-back defeats at the start of the season acted as a bit of a wake-up call, with goals hard to come by through those early stages. Nine goals from the following six league outings suggests that issue has been remedied.

Sat bang in mid-table, they added forward Kieran Sadlier as part of the tweaking of their attacking options following his recent release from League One rivals Bolton after the window had closed.

Off the field there could be changes afoot with owner Rob Couhig announcing that he's likely to sell the club within the next four years.

The US businessman bought a 75% stake from the Wycombe Supporters' Trust almost three-and-a-half years ago.

The club reached the Championship under Gareth Ainsworth almost immediately after the takeover had gone through, but they suffered relegation following a tough season at that level.

Experienced forward Sam Vokes is into his third season with his current club and reminded everybody of the threat he brings with the first goal in the recent 2-0 victory over Blackpool.

He has 24 goals in 98 appearances in all competitions for the Chairboys and knows how to be a real pain in the proverbial in and around the box.

Creating space and chances for others is a big part of his game these days and he's had a total of 23 shots in league action so far this term. That tells us that if there's a gap, he'll give it a go.

  Carlisle wins Draws Wycombe wins
League 5 9 8
Total 5 9 8

Carlisle and Wycombe met for the first time in 1993, but the teams went on to become regular foes until the last time they met in Ferbuary 2018.

And it’s Wycombe who have had the best of the 22 meetings having claimed eight victories compared to Carlisle’s five.

A draw is the most popular result between the two, with nine games seeing the points shared.

There was real drama at Adams Park in February 2018. United went into a huge chunk of added time at the end of an all-action affair ahead thanks to Danny Grainger (pen), Jamie Devitt and Cole Stockton. But Marcus Bean and Paris Cowan-Hall stole the show when they both netted way beyond the 90-minute mark, stealing the points for the hosts.

Watch the highlights from that game here:

There were plenty of goals at Brunton Park in October 2017 with Reggie Lambe and Jamie Devitt (pen) sending the Blues into a two-goal lead ahead of the break. Sam Saunders brought the visitors right back into it on the stroke of half-time. Akinfenwa levelled late in the day, but Lambe restored the lead and seemingly the win. But Paris Cowan-Hall made sure Wycombe went home with a point when he scored deep into time added on.
