United boss Paul Simpson confirmed today that midfielder Taylor Charters has been sent for a scan on his hamstring following his substitution in the second half of the Carlisle City game on Tuesday night.
“He’s had a scan on his hamstring today,” he said. “On examination it doesn’t seem too bad, but we’re a little bit concerned because it’s on the same hamstring he had the surgery on last season.
“The surgery was quite low down, and this is a bit higher up, and the disappointing thing is that he’s had no signs of it, no aches going into the game, or anything like that. It’s just one of those things, so we’ll wait and see what the results of that are.”
“Josh Kayode had his surgery on Tuesday, and from what I’m being told the tear was bigger than they expected,” he continued. “His surgery went really well so he’s now in the rehab process.
“We’re probably looking at 12 weeks, which takes him to about 23 December, which seems a hell of a long way off. That’s the way it is, we’ve just got to deal with that.
“Ben Barclay is doing really well. He’s back in full training with everybody, but it was too early for him to play against Carlisle City on Tuesday. He’ll get a good few weeks of training now.
“Dylan McGeouch tried to get back for this week but we’re not sure what’s happened with him. He’s told us that he got a kick on his calf a couple of weeks ago.
“That just hasn’t settled down, so he’s been and had that scanned, and he’s probably looking at about four weeks. I think I was told it’s a 2C grade of a soleus strain, and it’s a bit of a mystery how that’s happened.”
“Then from Tuesday night we had Dan Butterworth who got smashed in a challenge, and he’s sore today in his quad, but we expect him to be ok,” he commented. “Alfie McCalmont also got smashed in a challenge on Tuesday, he’s done a recovery session today but he should be ok for the weekend.
“We’ve got a few bumps and bruises but hopefully that’s as far as it goes. Obviously Corey Whelan was ill, but he’s been back in training today.
“He came in on Monday and was complaining of not feeling right, but he wanted to train. We’re having to covid test players again now, because it seems as though it’s going around again, but he was negative.
“He wanted to give it a go on Tuesday but said he just didn’t feel right, so there’s no point taking chances. He dropped out of the game, which was a shame because he’d taken part in the match prep we’d done on Monday. He’s back and available for the weekend now.”
