Assistant manager Gav Skelton confirmed that it’s business as usual as far as the club is concerned when it comes to the speculation surrounding midfielder Owen Moxon, who has been the subject of transfer window rumours this week.
“I don’t think anything’s going on as far as we’re concerned,” he said Skelton. “As we’ve shown tonight [Chorley friendly], we always planned to give him minutes and that’s what he got.
“We prepared as we did, Mox trained yesterday as normal, and there’s nothing to report. If we were treating him different or worrying about that, there [would be] a bit of a story but there’s no story as far as I’m aware.
“It’s football, isn’t it,” he insisted. “If there’s speculation around certain players it must mean the club and the team is doing well.
“We’ve had it before, and you carry on as normal. It’s part of the job. You learn with experience not to get too excited about this type of thing.
“It had always been the plan for Moxon to play half an hour last night, after he had started and played an hour of Saturday’s game against Newcastle United’s Under-21s.
"Like I say, if players do well, it’s a bit of an honour isn’t it for the player or the club that people show interest. Whether that’s true or not, I’m not sure, but you’re always going to get speculation.
“As far as we know, and like we’ve shown tonight, we carry on as normal,” Skelton said. “I don’t know anything about it, so it’s exactly the same preparation and plan, and we treat him exactly the same.”
