Everybody at the club was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former club physio Frank Davidson, who died suddenly but peacefully at home on Saturday 22 July.
Frank, 76, played for many years in United’s reserve team, often at the drop of a hat and whenever called upon, particularly by Bob Stokoe.
He was more likely to be found helping out behind the scenes, particularly when it came to training sessions and match days in the medical department.
Chairman Andrew Jenkins said: “Frank loved this club and he would help with anything and in any area where it was needed.
“He played in our reserves, and never looked out of place in defence, and also up front, on occasion, because he was a very strong, capable and physical player.
“We had him in our Pioneer team in the Sunday leagues, and you couldn’t find anybody who would say a bad word against him.
“He was one of those people who wanted the best for Carlisle United, and he loved playing a part in making things happen.
“Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this sad time.”
Former player John Halpin said: “He had his role in the physio department but he was much, much more than that to the lads.
“When I came to the club back in 1984 he was working closely with Bob Stokoe, and Bob really trusted him to help with looking after us.
“He was a confidante to the players, you could tell him anything and you’d know you’d get good advice and that he’d only involve other people if he needed to.
“When I broke my leg the first time I was in a really bad place with myself, and Frank spotted that. He got me away to his villa in Portugal, for a much-needed break – please excuse the pun – and you have no idea how much that went towards putting me right.
“He was a genuine, kind, nice fella and he’ll be missed.”
Daughter Joanna said: “Dad always had Carlisle United in his heart and he loved his time working at the club as the physio.
“We will all miss him very much.”
