With United having notched three wins in a row on Saturday they head into the Barrow game looking to build on the confidence and keep the excellent run going.
“It’s a monkey off our back in terms of getting three wins,” he said. “Now we have to go and make it four, and let’s try to get a real winning run together.
“I was really jealous when I heard the other day about Man United winning ten on the trot, and I know that’s pie in the sky dreamworld stuff, but let’s go and try and get four on the trot in what is a good game to look forward to on Tuesday.
“I don’t really know, but the players must have confidence. But I am really enjoying it. You’ve got to enjoy it when you’re fourth in the table and we’re picking up good results. All you can do is keep going.
“I am really enjoying it even though I know my face isn’t showing it at the moment. That’s because we still have 19 games to go and I’m determined to keep the standards right and the focus right.
“We have to come in every day and train properly, then we have to do match day right. I spoke to them on Friday about the fact that if we do it properly I think there’s enough ability in there to make it a good finish to the season.
“So let’s enjoy another big game. We’ve got to enjoy it, but you only really enjoy it if you do it properly and get a result.
“Our next challenge is to make sure we look after ourselves on Sunday and come into the club on Monday ready to put in a good performance that gets us another three points.”
And those 11 clean sheets from 27 league games isn’t a bad platform to build off.
“It’s a very good ratio,” he agreed. “I’m looking at 17-18-19 clean sheets if we can, so there’s still a lot of work to do.
“It will be really nice if we can do it again on Tuesday, a clean sheet at home in front of our fans, and carry on scoring goals as well.
“But there are no easy games. Tuesday will be a tough game, Saturday at home will be a tough game, Wimbledon away will be a tough game, there’s so much to play for and some tough games to come, but we’ve given ourselves a real fighting chance and that’s all we can ask.
“It’s a long time since Carlisle and Barrow have been competing at the top end of League Two. We’ve got to make sure we make the most of the opportunity.”
