“We’re all just focusing on the next game all of the time. As soon as we beat Rochdale we were looking at Barrow, and it will be Harrogate on Saturday after that. If we keep winning games our position is only going to get better, so we just focus on ourselves.”
The bedrock of the current run has been defensive solidity, with the team working hard to protect the final third from back to front.
“We’re not conceding many goals at the minute, but that isn’t just down to the defenders and Tomas, it’s about us all as a team,” he said. “We all pride ourselves on not conceding at our end and scoring at the other end, and that’s what we’re doing at the minute.
“We’ve had a couple of clean sheets in the last few games and we’re scoring plenty of goals as well. As a team it’s really pleasing for everyone.
“Hunts is a fountain of knowledge and he’s great to play next to. He’s had a fantastic career and I’d be stupid to not tap into his knowledge or listen when he’s giving me bits of advice. It’s a pleasure to play next to him and long may it continue.
“I’m pleased to have been able to chip in with a couple of goals in the last few games as well, but I’d still like to add more. As long as we’re scoring as a team and winning games it doesn’t matter who gets on the scoresheet.
“I think all of us defenders would like to contribute more from set pieces and things like that and get some more goals for the team.”
The latest success for the Blues was that away win at Rochdale, another gritty display with plenty of incident.
“The support we’ve had in the away games recently has been frightening,” he commented. “It’s been like playing at home.
“I’m not sure how many Rochdale fans were there on Saturday but it felt like we had twice as many there because of the noise our lot made.
“It doesn’t half help, especially when you’re away from home. It really gives us a lift, probably more of a lift than the fans even realise. Long may that continue.
“They really celebreated at the end and we were all convinced the goal Rochdale scored was offside so it was pleasing that the right decision was made in the end.
“I think the linesman just wanted to check who had headed it on but it was clear as day that it was Quigley, which meant it was offside. I don’t want to say much about the officials but luckily they got that one right on the day.
“I’m not sure what happened with my booking. A couple of minutes earlier the ref had told me that our players were crowding around him so it should only be me going to speak to him.
“We got a foul so I just questioned why it wasn’t a booking for their player when Hunts had just got booked for probably less of an offence. All of a sudden he went to my pocket, and I’m still not sure why because he told me one thing and he told the gaffer another thing.”
Always enjoyed by the fans are the huddles in front of the away end after the final whistle has gone.
“When we have the huddles in front of the fans at the end of the game the gaffer just tells us, well done, then makes sure our focus goes straight to Tuesday night,” he explained. “I think it’s so important for us to keep focused and take each game as it comes.
“It’s great for us to all come together in front of the fans so we can thank them afterwards, but it’s mostly about keeping the same messages and making sure we don’t get too carried away.
“It sounds like we’ll have a good crowd in on Tuesday night, if you haven’t got your ticket yet but you aren’t doing anything then please come down and support us.
“A big crowd would be amazing. If we’re already over 6,000 it would be great to get even more in. The atmosphere will be electric, it always feels different under the lights, and the fans will push us over the line.
“I’m really proud to be captain of this group and this club. It’s a proud moment in any situation but to be doing it when there’s a real buzz around the place with the fans it’s just fantastic. Hopefully we can keep going in the right direction.”
