Manager Paul Simpson spoke to us ahead of Saturday’s home game against Northampton.
“Saturday will be a tough game,” he said. “They’ve had four win from their last five and that 12 points has made a huge difference, they’re now in a really comfortable mid-table position.
“We know it’s going to be difficult, and the most difficult thing is because of the form that we’re in. I’ve said to the players, it only takes one result to suddenly turn it all around and be the catalyst for going on a good run.
“I’m sure Northampton were looking a few weeks ago wondering what they needed to do to get the next result, and suddenly they’ve won four out of five. If we can do that then it suddenly makes everybody smile a bit more and puts everybody in a much better position.
“The only way to get four out of five is if you start winning, we’ve got to start this weekend. We need a performance to start to build on the work we’re doing. We need to be better on the ball and be more clinical in both boxes. If we do that then we can make it a good weekend for ourselves.”
“They’re a tough side to play,” he continued. “They’re very similar to last season in terms of personnel, they haven’t made a lot of changes. They have a similar style, they’re very hard to play against and they don’t give a lot away.
“It’s got to be about us, we know we have to be better than we have been in the last couple of games and we know we have to continue working hard. More than anything we’ve got to be better in possession of the ball and creating opportunities.
“We are still in touching distance but if I’m honest I don’t look at other results because I know if we aren’t winning then we aren’t going to be in a good position. We have to start looking after ourselves, if we can get things right on our own pitch then that will lead to better positions in the league table.
“I think football at Christmas is a brilliant thing, the only downside of being a footballer is having to play at Christmas but I think that’s a really small thing to have to put up with.
“We’ve got a great opportunity this weekend in what I’m looking at as the first weekend of the Christmas run. We’ve got a lot of good games to look forward to starting with two good home games.
“I fully expect it to be a good day and a good occasion. I think if we get the performance right then we won’t need to worry about the performance of the fans because I know they will back us to the hilt.”
