It was back to league business for the Blues on Saturday with an away day in Salford.
Goals from Kai Nugent and Ryan Carr gave the Bues a deserved two-goal lead in a game that was extremely well contested.
United defended well, and created some good chances, but they had the win snatched away as the hosts first netted from a free kick, and then turned a long ball forward into a neat finish.
Both of those goals came in the final four minutes of the game.
"It's hard to be critical because the lads played their part in a very competitive game," youth boss Mark Birch. "We scored some good goals, defended as a team, but we fell to two late strikes from them.
"The important thing is that we got a good performanc after the disappointment of the cup competitions."
