We were delighted to be able to welcome students from Lime House School in Dalston for the recent Walsall home game.
PE teacher Sam Clarkson is a long-time United fan and he took it upon himself to approach the club to see if we could perhaps help with convincing his group that there’s really only one United.
We were only too happy to help, and despite the 0-0 end result the trip proved to be a success, with everybody agreeing that they’ll be back to watch some live football at Brunton Park soon – which is effectively what it was all about in the first place.
Sam Clarkson said: “The pupils were excited about the opportunity to spend their Saturday afternoon at Brunton Park cheering on Carlisle United.
“Most of the students who are attending have not had the opportunity to watch a live football game in the UK before, but all have an affinity to different Premier League teams.
“One of the aims of the school is for the pupils to experience local events and be a part of the community, and hopefully this opportunity will help them to appreciate the importance of the football club to the community within Carlisle and the wider area.
“They've been keeping an eye of recent results and asked me lots of questions this week about the game. I am hopeful that this is the beginning of a good relationship between the club and the students at Lime House School.
“I really think the day has had a positive impact on those who attended, and I am sure that some of the older students will take the opportunity to attend games in the future off their own backs.”
Nigel Davidson, fan director and EDI officer, said: “It was a pleasure to host them and we are really looking forward to seeing them again soon.
“They’ve gone back to school and told their friends about what a great day they had, and hopefully that will raise the interest amongst other who may now want to come.
“We had students from China and Morocco at the Walsall game, which was incredible. I’m sure we don’t have a Moroccan Supporters’ Group at the moment, but you never know!”
