CARLISLE HALF: Just over one week to go!

Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to be hosting the fourth annual Premier Electrical Carlisle Half on Sunday 13 March.

All three of the previous events have received fantastic reviews, since its conception in 2018, and this year the build-up feels even more special as the Carlisle Half and Fun Run returns after a two-year break, due to Covid.

Event organisers, and avid United fans, Ian Milburn (from IM Events) and Mike James from Gelt Gladiator are looking forward to race day and to creating another memorable day for runners from Carlisle to as far afield as the USA.

“To be able to create, host and deliver a first-class event from Brunton Park is amazing for me and Mike and as I’ve said a number of times, we’ve both got so many great (and not so great!!) memories as Carlisle fans since we started watching the blues as youngsters,” Ian said.

Ian was also a very close friend to the much-missed Tony Hopper and, for the first time this year, the ‘Tony Hopper Trophy’ will be awarded to one of the participants in the event.

“I have always wanted to do something to remember Tony and after speaking to Sue, Tony’s wife, and his brother Darren (who will be taking part in the half marathon) they thought it was a great idea, and we will be awarding the trophy every year from now on.”

There have bene some fantastic nominations for the Trophy so far, and anyone who would like to nominate someone who is taking part on the day can contact the Carlisle Half team directly, either through the Carlisle Half page on FaceBook, or by email to info@meventsservices.co.uk.

We are looking for nominations for any runner (they must be taking part in the event) that has done something amazing in the last two years. Whether it’s fundraising or helping in the community, or even by making a huge effort just to get to the start line - any reason why you think someone deserves recognition, please let us know.

We’re also really looking forward to hosting the Carlisle Youth Zone Fun Run which has, once again, been kindly supported by Kingmoor Park.

This year’s Fun Run t-shirt has been designed by Alexis, one of the children who attends the Youth Zone, who won a competition to have her design printed on the race memento.

There are still a few places left to enter, for the Fun Run, so if you and your family fancy a run, jog or even a walk over 2km on Sunday 13 March then please enter via the website at www.carlislehalf.co.uk.

As well as the fantastic finisher’s t-shirt there is a wonderful end to the run in front of the tunnel at Brunton Park, and a quality medal for everyone who takes part on the day.

There will be a number of the children from the Youth Zone at the Northampton game due to the support of Premier Electrical, Kingmoor Park and Thomas Graham, and we hope this adds to what is going to be a memorable weekend.
