Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that midfielder Lewis Bell has today joined Scottish Lowland Football League side Gretna 2008 on a half-season loan deal.
Bell, 19, signed his first professional deal – a two-year contract with a further one-year option – at the end of the 2020/21 season.
He joined the academy system when he was just nine-years-old, and progressed through to the under-18 squad having impressed at every level through the age groups.
He spent the first part of 2022 on-loan at Warrington, before returning to Brunton Park where he’s made a total of six first-team appearances so far.
Manager Paul Simpson said: “We’ve got to know everybody at Gretna really well and we’ve seen the facility they have at Raydale Park, which is fantastic, and the way they play their football.
“Lewi is a young player who needs game time in a competitive environment, and that’s what he’ll get with this move.
“We know they’ll look after him and it’s another situation which will allow him to train and play in a different environment and, at the same time, we’ll be able to keep a close eye on him.
“It’s one that will hopefully benefit all parties.”
