Scunthorpe always seem to cause United problems, as you can see with them holding the balance of victories over the years.
But those of a certain age will never forget Cumbrian lad Jeff Thorpe coming off the bench back in September 1994 to turn a game on its head with two late goals which took his side to a 3-2 victory ... and unbelievable celebrations in the away end.
The Iron had to wait until the end of August for their first league win which, to date, has been their only victory of the campaign.
A 4-0 reverse at the hands of Exeter on their own patch last Saturday left them with much to think about, and that came off the back of a 2-0 defeat at Northampton the week before.
Currently too close to the bottom two places for comfort, even at this early stage, they'll be looking to get things moving again at the earliest opportunity.
The August portion of the transfer window saw a chunk of loan movement, with Bournemouth striker Jake Scrimshaw the first of three to make the step.
Midfielder Harry Wood then came in from Hull, and fellow playmaker Hayden Hackney signed on the dotted line for the season from Middlesbrough.
That man Jake Scrimshaw could well be an astute signing with the 21-year-old talking in his interviews about being ready to make a mark.
He scored on his debut - the 1-1 home draw with Sutton - and is a real livewire in the final third of the pitch.
We've flagged him up as the one to watch off the back of the reviews his performances have received.

The Tuesday night meeting in April 2021 brought a brace from Jon Mellish which was enough to keep the points in Cumbria.

United were at Glanford Park in September 2020 and a first half goal from Jordan Hallam was enough to secure a win for the hosts.

These teams met in August 2019 and it was one of Scunthorpe's summer signings who proved to be the difference - a certain Mr Ryan Loft. he was on-loan from Leicester at the time and he struck bang on the hour mark to make sure the points went back to Cumbria.
