The first of the Youth Alliance Cup round-robin fixtures brought Rotherham to Creighton on Saturday afternoon.
And United were frustratingly undone by three set-piece goals.
To add to the feelings of frustration a brace from Nic Bollado had twice put the young Blues in front, but it was the Millers who took the result and prime spot in the group as they bounced back to claim the win.
