CHARITY: A double-marathon with a twist

United’s director of football David Holdsworth has completed a challenge with a difference this weekend with a 26-mile swim complemented by a 26-mile run (also done in the water at the same time as holding two 10kg weights!)

Speaking today, he told us: "I think I said back on day one that I've done a few things over the course of the past few weeks to raise money for good causes, but I wanted to add to that by doing something myself for Carlisle and the surrounding areas.

"I know the club has been working closely with the NHS, the Carlisle Partnership and the Cumbria Community Foundation, so I'm hoping the money raised by doing this will help them, even if it's just in a small way.

"I'd like to thank everybody who has donated and who has sent some amazing messages of support. It's been a tough challenge, it really has, but knowing that there were people out there who were behind me every step of the way was just brilliant.

"I'm really not a good swimmer, so I found that part of it to be difficult anyway, and adding 10kg weights to the run made that very interesting as well.

"There are a few stiff muscles and aching bones now but, having raised some money along the way, it's all been very worthwhile."

"Thank you once again to everyone who donated," he concluded. "I'll be leaving the donation link live until the end of the week, so please do help if you can. It's all for some fantastic causes.

"The money raised will be checked, as per the donation page, and handed over at the earliest opportunity once the final sum has been processed."
