CONTRACT: Left back joins the Blues

Carlisle United have today signed left back Nick Anderton on an 18-month deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2021.

Anderton, 23, started his career at home-town club Preston where he enjoyed loan spells at Chorley, Gateshead, Barrow and Aldershot.

Interestingly he was a target for Eric Kinder and Carlisle United as a 15-year-old but he opted to stay closer to home and signed his scholarship forms at Deepdale at the time.

He signed for Barrow on a permanent basis in 2016 and became a regular for The Bluebirds before moving to Bloomfield Road in 2017.

His most recent Blackpool appearance was at Brunton Park in October where he featured in the Leasing.com Trophy, which the Cumbrians won 2-1.

Head coach Chris Beech said: “He’ll bring experience, quality and strength.

“He’s played in League One and he was doing very well at Barrow before that, which meant that Blackpool paid good money for him.

“He was at Accrington during the first half of last season and did very well, so I’m very excited that he’s here.

“He’s gone about his career the hard way, but that means he’s got real character and it sometimes helps a player to become very committed.

“From speaking to him I know this is a challenge he’s looking forward to. He wants to make an impact and he wants to help us to win games. He knows he has to earn the right to be in the team, but he’s coming here very focused and in a positive frame of mind.”

Anderton will wear squad number 34.
