United boss Steven Pressley spoke more about the importance of his creative players continuing to make chances as the club heads into the final stages of the campaign.
“The pleasing thing is that we’ve consistently created some very good chances in recent games,” he said. “We’ve got players who like to get on the ball and who can unlock defences with their forward-thinking approach.
“As I said after the game on Saturday, I thought our midfield three had a very good game with the energy and tenacity they showed. With O’Hare and Scougall we were always looking to break through and Slater never stopped running and working hard.”
“Obviously we have Jamie Devitt back and available for the weekend,” he continued. “He’s a key player and he’s been very good for the club this season.
“When things aren’t quite going your way it’s important to have players around who can help you to improve, and he’s certainly in that category.
“He’ll certainly add competition to the squad, which is what we’re looking for. Whoever is selected, we want to see creativity and we want to see players wanting to score goals.
“We’ve seen Mark Cullen getting fitter and sharper and his goals will come because he’s working exceptionally hard. He’s an ideal player for us and I’ve got real confidence in him and the rest of the group.
“There is still room for others to step up and play their part. Connor Simpson is one of those but he knows at this moment in time the reality is that he hasn’t quite got there in training and in the bounce games we’ve had.
“He’s come to the club and he has a responsibility to do better when he gets his chance, and he knows that.”
“Overall I think the new players have settled quickly, and they’re certainly working hard enough and well enough to get the results,” he commented. “I think we recruited well, I really do. The disappointment is that we’ve lost a couple of difficult games, but we can’t panic.
“We have to keep believing in what we’re trying to achieve and, if we do that, I know we’ll get the outcomes we all want.”
