CUSG: First shirts up to view in Pioneer Stand offices

Following an appeal from Carlisle United Supporters' Groups (CUSG) for memorabilia - some of which will be positioned around  Brunton Park - the response from fans has been fantastic and the first 12 United shirts are now hung proudly on the wall of the stairwell leading up to the club offices in the Pioneer Stand.

Simon Clarkson, chair of CUSG, explained the various elements of the project and what fans can expect to see in the future.

"We were amazed by the generosity of fans," he said. "Donations of all shapes and sizes have been received and many of them have been framed and are now on display.

"We have catalogued and archived hundreds of items so far. These include photographs, newspaper cuttings and programmes. Some unique items will soon be going on display in a cabinet, and we think they will take some fans on a walk down memory lane."

Dozens of replica and players shirts were also donated, with Dan MacLennan from TheCumbrians.Net leading on this initiative.

Dan said: "We've had some fantastic shirts donated and we almost have a full collection of home shirts going back some 30 years.

"We decided against framing, and have subsequently found a design that we hope the fans like. The display hangers allow us to alternate the shirts if needs be, and we have been given a brilliant deal from 'Shirts Display UK' - www.shirtdisplays.co.uk.

"We decided to get some feedback from fans by purchasing 12 of the specialist hangers. As things stand we have put up a random selection of shirts in the hallway entrance to the east stand ticket office, simply to give fans an idea of what the finalised display will look like.

"If people like what they see, we'll crack on and put a lot more up in a much more structured order. We also have plans to use some of the shirts when the bars in the main stand get renovated.

"Please let us know what you think. Of course, any more donations will be greatly received - shirts, programmes, or anything else you may have in the loft - as we have a few more ideas in the pipeline!”
