We caught up with striker Ashley Nadesan on Thursday to get his thoughts on his debut for the club, having taken to the pitch and made an immediate impact at Meadow Lane on Tuesday night.
“I was warming up down the touchline and it was unreal when the gaffer called me back and told me I was going on,” he said. “It was a bit surreal when I was putting my shirt on, but it was just good to get on the pitch and make an impact in the game.
“When the gaffer shouted me back I was nervous at first, but as soon as I got my head around it I was just buzzing to get on the pitch. I’ve been waiting a year and a half to get my chance and on Tuesday I was finally able to get on the pitch and try and show what I can do.
On providing an assist with his second touch of the game, he said: “My first touch was to get the ball under control then get it back to Reggie [Lambe], Reggie gave it back to me and I managed to cut it back after I saw Jamie Devitt on the edge of the box. Sometimes I think assists are better than goals because you’re really contributing to the team and making an impact.
“To be involved in the squad gives you confidence, but for the gaffer to give me the shout and put me on, and then to make an impact like I did, does give me a lot of confidence. I was over the moon."
“When I first came here it was unreal for me to be involved in a first team dressing room and first team training sessions," he told us. "I’ve been learning things from the lads every day, and we’ve been doing finishing sessions where I’ve been getting technical pointers from everyone, which has been great. It was good to get a chance on Tuesday night and I just want to keep improving now.
“I was able to show the fans who travelled on Tuesday a little bit of what I can do and hopefully I can keep doing that in the future. The gaffer said some good things about me after the game, which I’ve never really had before, and he’s given me a lot of confidence to continue showing everybody what I can do."
“The most important thing on Saturday is for the team to get the three points and get up the table, but I would love to get some minutes under my belt at the same time," he admitted. "It’s totally different to be in a dressing room which is fighting for points and with something to play for. It’s a great feeling to be involved.
“After getting the assist on Tuesday night the next target has to be a goal!”
