Manager Keith Curle acknowledged the huge part the fans have to play as he looks for his side to gather momentum as we head into the business end of the campaign.

“We need you more than ever,” he said. “The expectation for tomorrow will be there because it’ll be seen that we’re playing against a team that are near the bottom. That’s fine, we accept that, and what I’d say to the fans is don’t come and support us when we’ve turned the corner, come and support us now, before we’ve turned the corner, and be a part of it.

“In terms of results, it doesn’t matter where the next win comes from, but the next win is vital for us. The quicker we get it under our belt the easier it is to build momentum from it.”

“I know everybody came into this season expecting us to have a divine right to finish above sixth place,” he continued. “We don’t have that right because everything we get, we earn. This isn’t me lowering my expectations, this is me saying that we need better decision making, more quality in possession, and better choices made to help us to get the results we need.

“We have a committed group who are trying to pull it all together and the large majority of our supporters have been with us on this journey. They’re frustrated, as we are, because we haven’t had that little bit of luck that’s needed. It will turn, because the harder your work the luckier you get.”

And on the frustrations being felt by everybody, both inside and outside the club, he commented: “When I came in to this football club it didn’t have a focal point. We didn’t have anybody who was prepared to stand up and say they were accountable.

“People wanted to make decisions and not be accountable for them. I’ve said from day one that if things aren’t going right, blame me. Everything I do is for the betterment of the football club and that’s not going to change. That’s how I work.

“Everybody would love to be a football manager when things are going well, because that’s when it’s easy. The secret is that when things aren’t going well, can you keep your head?

“I’m composed, I enjoy my job and I have a love and a passion for what I do. That won’t change when I’m being criticised. I make the decisions I make for the right reasons and I’m 100% accountable for them.

“Hopefully the fans can see that, and they’ll continue to get behind us as we look for the kind of run which will get everyone talking about the club for the right reasons once again.”
