Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that defender Anthony Gerrard has received a letter of warning relating to his future conduct from the FA following messages which were sent to a WhatsApp Group during his time with Oldham Athletic.
Gerrard, 32, joined the Blues in early August and has made a total of 22 appearances in all competitions so far.
His current short-term spell with the club draws to a close in January, but manager John Sheridan confirmed this week that talks are ongoing about an extension to that deal.
Director of football David Holdsworth said: “This is something which happened at a previous club and, as such, was ongoing when Anthony came to us.
“We’ve obviously kept an eye on it and we’re pleased that it has now been dealt with.
"For us, here at Carlisle United, we have introduced a new Code of Conduct for all players and staff across the club, and everyone is fully aware of their responsibilities when it comes to interacting with fans, or with each other, on social media or in person.”
