United gaffer John Sheridan spoke to us about the first game of the new year as the Blues travel to face ‘local’ rivals Morecambe on Tuesday.
“We’ll have a big following there and it’s a good day out for the supporters,” he said. “Hopefully the players and the fans are going in high spirits and we will all have a good day.
“It’s a winnable game and it’s a big, big game for both sides. Morecambe are very tough to play against. They’re really well organised and they all know how their manager wants them to play.”
“I like Jim Bentley, and I have a lot of time for his assistant Kenny as well,” he added. “They do a brilliant job to even stay in the division. Jim is an excellent manager in my eyes, I get on really well with him, and he’ll know the importance of beating us.
“It’s always a tough place to go but it’s a good game for us with the form we’re in. They’ll be expecting to beat us, because they’re at home, but it’ll feel like a home game with the number of fans we’ll have there.
“I’m sure they’ll make a lot of noise and we’ll be going there to try to win the game for them. It’s been a tough run of games in very quick succession, but we’ll do everything right as we prepare for it.
“I’ve given the lads a couple of days off because I know I need to look after them as well as I can. I want them ready mentally and physically because it won’t be easy.
"As we said the other day, the reward for getting a result is the points and what it will mean to the league table. Hopefully that’s what the players will have at the front of their minds.”
