Midfielder Joe Ward moves on from United
Carlisle United can confirm that midfielder Joe Ward has left the club as his short-term deal comes to an end.Ward joined the club in March having been made a free agent by West Brom in January.
Manager Keith Curle said: "Joe joined us at a time when we needed cover but he didn't quite make it into our first team reckoning.
"He worked hard and he added a competitive edge, which was exactly why we brought him into the squad. We wish him all the very best as he moves on to his next challenge."
In a statement released on Twitter tonight, Ward said: "For a long time I haven't felt like my heart was fully into football and now is the time to end my career in professional football and only play for fun so I can focus on something that I will enjoy and be happy doing.
"It hasn't been a quick decision or something I've took lightly. The decision in my mind was made over a year ago ... I want to thank everyone who has helped me along the way, from coaches to players to friends, but especially my family ..."
Everyone at the club wishes Joe all the very best for the future.
