United to face Port Vale at home in the EFL Cup
Carlisle United have been drawn to face Port Vale at home in round one of this season's EFL Cup competition following the draw which took place live on Facebook this afternoon. The sides last met in the JPT competition last season, where the Valiants edged through courtesy of the only goal of the game, and it will be the visitors first trip to Brunton Park since 7 September 2013 when the match was decided by the same scoreline.
Manager Keith Curle said: "It's obviously good to get a home tie but, home or away, we'll be approaching every game in the same manner this season.
"We'll respect the opposition, and what they can bring to the fixture, but we'll be competitive and we'll go out there to win it.
"It was a competition which brought us a lot of enjoyment last season, with trips to Loftus Road and Anfield, so there are rewards if things are done properly. It's a game to look forward to coming off the back of the trip to Portsmouth on the opening day of the season."
Fixture will be played week beginning 8 August 2016.
