Midfielder Mike Jones joins on a two-year deal
Carlisle United have today signed midfielder Mike Jones a two-year deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until at least the summer of 2018.
Jones, 28, came through the ranks at his hometown club of Tranmere and signed a professional contract with them in 2006.
A loan spell with Shrewsbury preceded a permanent move to Bury where he made over 150 appearances in just over three-and-a-half years.
He signed for Sheffield Wednesday in the January 2012 transfer window and made the move south to Crawley in August that year for a very successful two-year stay.
He joined the Latics in June 2014 and scored ten goals in his 86 appearances.
Head of recruitment Lee Dykes said: “Mike is someone we were interested in back in January. We thought he could add an impetus to the central areas of the pitch.
"Oldham wanted to retain him because they were looking to stay in League One, which they did, and Mike played his part in that.
"He's a very good, experienced player and he's someone I've worked with previously. We know what we're getting, he knows the game and he knows how to win matches.
"We're bringing a strong character in to be part of a strong squad. He'll need to fight for his place like everyone else, but he's prepared to do that."
