Club to name Golf Day in memory of Dick Young
Carlisle United Football Club has today announced the renaming of its annual Golf Day to the ‘Dick Young Carlisle United Golf Day’ – to be held this year at Carlisle Golf Club on Friday 8 July in memory of our much loved and respected Commercial Director who sadly passed away this year.
Mr Young, who introduced the annual Golf Day to the club calendar over ten years ago, grew the event from a simple mini-competition, in its earliest guise, to the keenly contested format we all now enjoy which brings club staff and players together with businesses and fans from the local area, and beyond.
Club Director and close friend of Mr Young, Norman Steel, said: “The renaming of the Carlisle United Golf Day, now held annually, is fitting and appropriate as it was his skills in the first instance that led to the event being inaugurated a number of years ago.
“Dick would have been very proud of this gesture, and I know his family are as well.”
Sales and Marketing Director Phil King said: “The sense of loss felt when Dick passed away was huge because he was such a positive character and influence around the club. We wanted to remember him in a fitting way and the annual Golf Day was a project he was extremely passionate about.
“Everyone who knew Dick associated him with Carlisle United, and with events like this, and it’s nice for us to be able to say another thank you to him in this manner.”
