United Fan Groups raise cash for local appeal
United fans Jamie Grubb, Billy Atkinson and Julie Blinco handed over a cheque for £1,610 for the Flood Appeal to Ian Brown, the Chairman of the Cumbria Community Foundation.
The donation was raised from proceeds collected at a football match played against the England fans team, the sale of CUSG pin badges and collections on the West Cumbrian Route 66 away bus travel.
Sales and Marketing Director Phil King said: “It’s fantastic to see the Supporters’ Groups working together in this way. It shows the positive impact this type of combined effort can have.
“More money has been raised from the sale of the Pin Badges to help with the purchase of commentary kit for the blind, and hopefully this is just the start of a number of joint initiatives.”
Speaking about the Pin Badges, CUSG member Simon Clarkson said: “We'd like to thank Billy Atkinson for sponsoring this project and it's been good to see so many fans, at home and away, wearing their badge with pride knowing that it was for such a good cause.
“The design of the badge was finalised at the January meeting of CUSG and we were all delighted when Billy, the owner of The Local, an off-licence in English Street in Carlisle, offered to sponsor the initial production run of 500 badges.
“Thank you to all those who purchased one. We all feel that this has been a great way for CUSG to launch their first of what we hope will be a significant number of successful projects.”
