INTERVIEW: We want to end the season well

Defender Alexander McQueen on his return to action

United defender Alexander McQueen followed up last Tuesday’s man of the match performance with another fantastic display at Crawley on Saturday which included an assist for Charlie Wyke’s match winning 78th minute goal.

We caught up with him to talk about his return to the fold shortly after full time at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

“I’ve been really enjoying myself and I’ve been working hard to make sure I’ve stayed fit enough to be back on the pitch,” he said. “You have to be patient sometimes and then you have to take the chance when it comes.

“I’ve been doing some extra sessions with Lee Fearn to help and that has paid off for me. I’ve felt fit and ready and thankfully I think I’ve played quite well over the last two games.”

On the touch which set up the header for the goal, he said: “I was actually going to bring it down. Then I thought to myself that I didn’t want to try anything too much with it, so I decided to help it back in.

“Fortunately Chaz [Charlie Wyke] was there to head it in so it was good. We wanted to end the season well so it’s good to get a win and a clean sheet away from home.”

And on the man of the match award in the Luton game, he said: “I actually didn’t hear it when it was announced. I got into the dressing room and into the shower and that’s when I found out about it.

“I have to say I was very pleased. My confidence is quite high at the moment and hopefully I’ll be able to keep it going until the end of the season.

“Whether I’m involved or not it’s a big game for us on Saturday. They’re obviously pushing for promotion so it’s another one we’ll be looking to do right.”
