Derek Asamoah on the Morecambe game
Striker Derek Asamoah spoke to us during the Upperby U7s training session on Monday evening about his goal against Morecambe."The result didn't go our way on Saturday," he told us. "At the same time, there were a lot of positives to take from the game.
"We created a lot of chances and until they got the goal they weren't really in it. If we'd got the second goal, which could have came from my chance, I think that would have really put the game in our hands."
"The goal I actually scored was the most difficult chance I had," he admitted. "For my first chance I didn't realise how close the defender was. I was trying to open my body up and go round the keeper, but the defender was closer than I anticipated.
"On another day I could have smashed it and the keeper could have saved it, but I made up my mind and stuck with it. It just didn't work out.
"The second chance was more difficult. I had to let it come over my shoulder and I just hit it as hard as I could. I caught the keeper off-guard and thankfully it went in."
"I've had a look back at the DVD and I think overall we did pretty well," he said. "We have to take the positives and move on. There was a lot of negativity around the place last year so, if there are any positives to take, you have to take them. The fact is that positive thinking makes you do things better."
