Graham Kavanagh ahead of the Sheffield United trip
Manager Graham Kavanagh spoke to us about this evening’s trip to Bramall Lane after the training session on Tuesday afternoon.
“I was at Bramall Lane last Tuesday, for their game against Peterborough, and there was a real sense of excitement around the place,” he said. “They were obviously anticipating the big game against Charlton at the weekend and they generate an unbelievable atmosphere. I was pleased to see that they won on Sunday.
“It can be difficult to go again after you’ve had that level of euphoria because it can be a case of ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ in many ways. However, they have a great squad and they are more than capable, whoever they put out, of causing us problems.
“Mind you, it’s the same budget and squad of players we came up against earlier in the season when we got a very good 1-0 performance for ourselves so we have nothing to be too fearful about.”
“They’re in a different frame of mind now and their confidence is very high,” he agreed. “However, we will go there believing that we can cause an upset. We’ve said all along that it’s always about what we do.
“We’ll do our work on how the opposition will set up and on what we can do to counterbalance that. If we can get into the right areas with the right type of quality then we’ll hopefully be causing them some problems.”
“It’s still all to play for and we know we have a chance to pull further away. The picture is a little bit clearer for us but, as I say, we’ll focus on what we have to do and the sooner we can get our big players back from injury then the more confident I will feel about how quickly we will get out of this.”
