Futsal lads presented with NW Division One title
The Carlisle United Futsal team were in Birmingham last week to compete in the Futsal National Finals - and they beat Leeds and Portsmouth to continue their impressive season by securing a place in the quarter finals.
Before the fixtures started the lads were presented with their North West Division One league title. During the season they won all 15 of their games and netted a massive 141 goals.
The lads only conceded 22 goals at the other end, which meant they were placed into the Football League Futsal hall of fame for scoring most goals in a season.
Jonathan Murray also picked up the league top scorer award after bagging 42 goals. He just pipped team mate Kieran Blair who grabbed 40 goals along the way.
During the National finals the lads were placed in group two alongside Wolves, Leeds and Portsmouth. A defeat in the first game to Wolves was followed by the victories over Leeds and Portsmouth, but eventual competition winners Derby won the first knockout stage by 3-0 to secure their passage.
Futsal coach James Tose said: "I'm immensely proud of what we have achieved during our first season.
"To come up against teams who had players who were a year older than us, and with an extra year of Futsal experience under their belt, has shown how hard the lads have worked.
"Our results have been remarkable when you consider the other teams have had a year to develop their teams both tactically and technically.
"This year has given us all a real confidence boost going into what we hope will be an even more successful second year of the programme.
"The lads will now have a well deserved rest before we pick things up again in September with the new scholars joining the squad."
